Joseph R Lewis, Jr

A Minnesota native, Joe started playing drums at the age of 12. Playing in bands in his HS years, Joe formed a group called, "The Family". The Family became well known, played with PRINCE and SONNY T and well known funk bands. After playing with Prince, The Family went professional and toured throughout Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin where they played with The Time, Jimmy Jam, Andre Simone and Alexander O'Neal. Joe moved his family to Fairfield, CA in 1985, and started playing with the Bay area R&B groups including Movin', B4 Dawn and Terre Londee. Fade to Black, and Su Mack. Joe finished out his Cali days playing with Aspyre and the famous funk group, COLD BLOOD. Joe moved to Spokane in 2000. Since then his music interest has evolved to include Smooth Jazz. He became the Co-Founder of the Smooth Jazz Society. He formed Joe Lewis & the JazzCats and played with blues band, Laffin' Bones. Joe has since moved to the Seattle area to be able to play more of the music that not only moves his soul, but also challenges him as a top professional drummer. Joe's drumming skills, his huge repertoire of music, and professionalism has kept him on the top of the list of the best drummers in the region. Joe's gentle spirit and integrity has blessed those of us who call him our friend.

Earl Hill aka E. D. Smooth

Earl has had a great love for music throughout his life. Born and raised in a very large family in Arizona, Earl was introduced to a large spectrum of music from an early age. Living in such a diverse community with many cultures, Earl was enriched with many different music genres; from Gospel, to Blues, Rock, Latino, Country & Western and the greatness of Motown. In his teen years, Earl played drums with the neighborhood band, playing all the danceable tunes at many house parties. The age of funk changed the music scene for Earl, and not far behind was a new type of Jazz, which at the time it was called, "riding music". "You never left home without 8 track tapes of Roy Ayers, Wes Montgomery, Grover, Ronny Laws or Herbie Hancock. And don't forget the briefcase you had to have to transport those tapes!"
Joining the USAF in the 70's, took Earl to many corners of the world including Japan. In the 80's he was introduced to Smooth Jazz and Earl, "has not looked back since". After 20 years in the USAF, Earl settled in Spokane where he became one of the founding members of the Smooth Jazz Society. He is our current President, and our in house DJ. Earl's extensive knowledge of the best of Smooth Jazz, and his calming demeanor and diplomacy is a precious asset to us all.
